Located in eastern Rajasthan at the confluence of great Aravalli range and verdurous Vindhyas, Ranthambore National Park is one of the famed and filmed tiger reserves of India. It is spread over an area of 400 sq. km, which is blessed with rich flora and fauna. Once a royal hunting reserve, the park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and became a part of Project Tiger in 1973. Apart from the tiger, the other main attractions of the park are Leopard, Caracal, Hyena, Jackal, Jungle cat, Marsh crocodiles, Wild boar, Bears Deer, etc. Crisscrossed by many perennial streams, the man made lakes of the park remains flooded with a wide variety of birds, both resident as well as migratory during winters. The park opens for sightseeing half hour before sunrise and closes down half hour after sunset.
